The Prom
Creative Coordinator
Development
The Prom was a project produced by Ryan Murphy through his overall deal at Netflix. I was a part of the creative team that oversaw the development of the project, which came in from Ryan as an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. We oversaw the project as it went through light development, packaging, and was greenlit for production.
Prep and Production
In pre-production for The Prom, wrangling talent schedules, fine tuning the budget and finding areas for cost efficiency were of the utmost priority. This had a bigger cast and budget than any musical we had worked on, so we had to be very intentional around scheduling and where we were putting our resources.
In production, I watched all the dailies that came in and gave production progress reports to studio leadership, along with the top selects from each day. I organized set visits for my boss to check in on the set.
Post-Production
In Post, we reviewed every new cut as it came in. I gave notes to the lead studio executive, who would then deliver compiled studio notes to the filmmaker, who would address them in each new cut. Later in post, we showed cuts to test audiences in theaters across the United States.
I worked with our Consumer Insights team to synthesize noteworthy audience opinions on the film (i.e. areas in the film that were too slow or confusing) and gave to the lead studio executive to communicate to the filmmaking team. I worked cross-functionally with our post-production and VFX teams to ensure delivery of the locked picture.
