Hillbilly Elegy

Creative Coordinator

Development

Hillbilly Elegy was submitted to us by CAA as a script written by Vanessa Taylor with Ron Howard attached to direct and Imagine Entertainment attached to produce. We developed the script with Vanessa and Ron, packaged it with an incredible cast, and greenlit the project for production in 2019. This was the first project I worked on that went through the entire development, production, post, and launch pipeline at Netflix.

Prep and Production

Our team oversaw the prep and production closely, helping Imagine Entertainment and our line producer build out crew department heads with which we’d create a shoot schedule, lock down locations, and fine tune the budget.

In production, we reviewed dailies as they came in to ensure that production was running smoothly. We stayed in touch with the on-set production folks constantly, and were there to support any problems as they arose. We had weekly production calls to make sure the film adhered to its schedule and budget.

Post-Production

In Post, we reviewed and gave notes on every cut from Ron’s Director’s Cut to Locked Picture. Later in the post-production process, we showed cuts to test audiences in theaters across the United States. Together with the Consumer Insights Team, we synthesized the audience data into further sets of the notes for Ron to consider in the final stages of post-production. As we neared release, I worked cross-functionally with our post-production and VFX teams to ensure delivery of the locked picture.
