The Boys In The Band

Creative Coordinator

Development

The Boys In The Band had a light development phase, going through only a couple rounds of script notes before being greenlit for production. The project came from producer Ryan Murphy as an adaptation of the recently successful Broadway show, which was also an adaptation of the 1970 film by William Friedkin. Our 2020 released film was written by Mart Crowley and Ned Martel, and directed by Joe Mantello.

Prep and Production

The Boys In The Band was a contained drama, all shot in one apartment over the course of an evening in its story. Pre-production and production were streamlined, yet still thorough with a cast of this caliber. We had weekly prep and production calls as we locked in locations, a budget, and schedule.

In production, I watched all of the daily footage that came in to assure there were no errors and that the filmmaking team completed all scheduled shot coverage. We communicated daily with the line producer, crew, producers and director Joe Mantello in order to make sure that production accomplished what it set out to.

Post-Production

In Post, the creative team reviewed every cut and gave notes to Joe, the filmmaker, and his editor. We screened cuts to test audiences in theaters across the United States, after which I collaborated with our Consumer Insights team to analyze audience data, pool common lines of feedback and communicate those to the Joe as well, who would choose to incorporate some of these into the next edit. I worked cross-functionally with our post-production and VFX teams to ensure delivery of the locked picture.
